Polystyrene foam sculpture

Polystirene foam are cheaper than fiberglass, and of course less durable. But this features make them suitable for temporary or seasonal projects, just place them in low traffic zones or restrict people from touching them. They can be used as is or they can be coated with materias of various degrees of hardness, the most used ones are hard and soft cements like base coat or portland cement.

Gypsum Used mostly for unique pieces that require a soft finish.

Fragile, brittle and heavy. Not very good for lasting pieces. On some cases you can do pieces enforced with fiberglass from a mold depending on its use.
Cost is relative to degree of difficulty. Less expensive than fiberglass. Not recomended for pieces that requiere moving constantly. Degree of detail possible from 1 to 10: 7.5

Polystyrene with hard coating Unique pieces for exterior or interior. Depending on the hardness of the coating can last for years in low traffic areas. Sometimes used for originals which will be used to make a mold from.

More resistant than plain polystyrene foam and less than fiberglass. With portland cement as coating can last years. Light weight material.
Middle range cost: Less expensive than fiberglass.
Not recomended for pieces that requiere moving constantly. Degree of detail possible from 1 to 10: 6
